4 simple cleaning steps to safely and effectively remove dirt, mold, and stains on leather seats, without causing damage, affecting the aesthetics of the car's interior space.
Leather materials used for car seats can be genuine leather or imitation leather, but in general, it is difficult to avoid stains during use. Here are 4 quick and simple steps to clean leather car seats that you can do at home.
Step 1: Check skin surface condition
Check the leather surface of the seat cover before cleaning to see if it is punctured, torn or not. If so, cover the hole or tear to prevent water and detergent from getting into the seat. Chairs that are soaked with water and detergents will easily cause odors and mold from the inside, which is difficult to handle.
Step 2: Vacuum away dirt
Use a mini vacuum cleaner to suck up all the dirt on the chair, especially in the seat slot area. Work gently so as not to scratch the surface of the skin.
Step 3: Clean with specialized detergent
- Wipe off dust, white mold remaining on the surface of the chair with a soft cloth.
- Use a specialized cleaner to spray on the surface of the chair and then use another towel to wipe each part. If the leather seats have a vent design, do not spray directly on the surface, but put the detergent on a towel and wipe it evenly.
- For yellow stains that cannot be cleaned with a towel, use a soft-bristled brush in combination with detergent to scrub it clean, working just enough to avoid fraying the skin surface.
Note, do not use diluted dishwashing liquid or laundry soap to clean car seats because the detergent inside these products can cause leather to fade and reduce durability.
Step 4: Nourish and wait for it to dry
After cleaning the seats clean and dry, it is recommended to use a dry towel to absorb a specialized car interior polish and wipe the entire leather surface. It takes at least an hour for the moisturizer to absorb into the skin and completely dry. This will make the leather of the chair softer, more beautiful and more durable.
